Queen City Marathon Update

Queen City Marathon

The Saskatchewan Minerals relay team crosses the finish line to raise cash for a good cause.

When more than 4,400 registered participants lined up to take part in the 2011 Credit Union Queen City Marathon, five of our very own Saskatchewan Minerals’ team members were among them.

Our relay team — including Clayton Millar, Brent Avery, Rodney McCann, Brent Hironaka and Anita Stettner — joined runners from nine provinces and 13 U.S. States to help raise money for the Leader-Post Raise-a-Reader Campaign, a local charity committed to increasing awareness and raising funds for literacy programs for children throughout southern Saskatchewan. This year’s marathon raised $25,824 for the campaign — $10,000 more than 2010’s total of $15,325 — including $5,000 donated to the cause by Saskatchewan Minerals. In addition to Raise-a-Reader, the marathon donates to other local community groups and the total amount raised for all groups in 2011 was a fantastic $33,000.

Our team took to the streets and, despite inclement weather, managed to finish the relay in 26th place with a total gun time of 4:00:10.

Saskatchewan Minerals is a proud member of the southern Saskatchewan community and was excited to get out, get involved and help raise money for a good cause.

Any employees interested in running in the 2012 marathon, taking place on September 9th, or making a donation should contact Clayton Millar, Accounts Manager.
