Burgers Help Support Local Sports

Hockey Fundraiser Helps Sports at the Community Level

Saskatchewan Minerals recently assisted in staging a Hockey Burger Cook-off, with proceeds going to raise funds for sports in Chaplin.

The Herbert Hawks (which includes three players from Chaplin, SK on the team) squared off against the junior novice team from Moose Jaw, and much of the fun was off the ice for the kids, aged 4-6. Saskatchewan Minerals provided hamburgers for all the players, and with the game attended by parents, grandparents and siblings the event raised more than $700 for the Chaplin Civic Centre.

Since most of the community are Saskatchewan Minerals employees, it’s one way the company continues its involvement by supporting local activities. The hockey game was particularly special, though, since it marked the only “home” game all season for the local players.

Saskatchewan Minerals is always outstanding when it comes to helping with community events, the continued support is greatly appreciated.

- Dave Schmitz, president of the Civic Centre

“The company has made other donations to the Civic Centre this year,” says Shannon Schmitz, Corporate Receptionist and Internal Quality Auditor with Saskatchewan Minerals. “It covered the cost of coffee and hot chocolate throughout the season and extra money was used for the operation of the rink.”

Donations also went to the Chaplin Ladies Curling Bonspiel in March, where Shannon and fellow employee Natalie Adrian joined in the action.
