Kramer Ltd and Saskatchewan Minerals go back 60+ years

Saskatchewan Minerals and Kramer Ltd have several things in common besides being recently recognized among Canada’s Best 50 Managed Companies. They are both headquartered in Saskatchewan, both dedicated to constant innovation – and they have both been working together for more than 60 years.

Caterpillar a familiar sight in Chaplin

When the Saskatchewan Minerals plant opened at Chaplin in 1948, it’s quite likely that the D4 ‘dozers rumbling over the grounds were supplied by Kramer – the Caterpillar dealer for Saskatchewan since 1944.

“I talked to the former plant manager, Jack Wakeford, who started with Saskatchewan Minerals in 1966,” says William Myketiak, today’s plant manager. “His recollection was that for sure Kramer was supplying equipment to Saskatchewan Minerals in the early 1950s.”

Heavy equipment plays a big role in the operation

The relationship between the two companies continues to be as solid as ever. About 90% of the heavy equipment at Saskatchewan Minerals is Caterpillar, so Kramer plays a big part in keeping the units running and in good condition – a key to the ongoing success of the company.

Over time, the size of equipment has grown to increase the efficiency of the mine operation and lower cost of production. That involves Track Type Tractors (aka Bulldozers), Tracked Excavators and Wheel Loaders. Kramer is on hand to provide product support to Saskatchewan Minerals through fluids analysis services, routine maintenance recommendations, diagnostic services and field or shop repair options.

“We depend on Kramer’s mobile service and Cat® parts department out of Swift Current, and get excellent service with their mobile units with sometimes very short notice,” William says. “Kramer will continue to contribute to Saskatchewan Minerals success in supplying a great product at a competitive price.”

Kramer has a long standing relationship with Saskatchewan Minerals that stretches back to the early years of both of our firms. We are pleased when we can share in the success of our customers, and I look forward to many more years of partnership with Saskatchewan Minerals.

Future tracks

And what lies down the road for Cat® equipment from Kramer? Revolutionary changes are underway to emissions of the diesel engines, with a 90 per cent reduction in particulate matter. Everyone at Kramer is gearing up for the new “Tier 4″ engines, which will keep Saskatchewan Minerals on the leading edge of technology well into the future.
